The Kingdom of God
I. Jesus isn’t a King without a Kingdom!
A. John 18:36-37 TPT “Jesus looked at Pilate and said, “The royal power of my kingdom realm doesn’t come from this world. If it did, then my followers would be fighting to the end to defend me from the Jewish leaders. My kingdom realm authority is not from this realm.” Then Pilate responded, “Oh, so then you are a king?” “You are right.” Jesus said, “I was born a King, and I have come into this world to prove what truth really is. And everyone who loves the truth will receive my words.”
B. Kingdom of God vs. Kingdom of Heaven
1. Kingdom of God = Mark and Luke
2. Kingdom of Heaven = Matthew
II. Where is the Kingdom?
A. Luke 17:20-21 NKJV “Now when He was asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God would come, He answered them and said, “The kingdom of God does not come with observation; nor will they say, ‘See here!’ or ‘See there!’ For indeed, the kingdom of God is within you.””
III. What is the Kingdom?
A. God’s complete rule and reign in our hearts and lives!
1. Romans 14:17 “For the kingdom of God is not a matter of rules about food and drink, but is in the realm of the Holy Spirit, filled with righteousness, peace, and joy. Serving the Anointed One by walking in these kingdom realities pleases God and earns the respect of others.”
Romans 14:17-18 TPT
IV. The Image of God
A. Genesis 1:26-28 “Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.””
Genesis 1:26-28 NKJV
1. Ark of Covenant and Mercy Seat
a. Exodus 20:4 ““You shall not make for yourself a carved image—any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth;”
Exodus 20:4 NKJV
2. Boundary Markers – ill. Rosetta Stone
a. 2 Corinthians 5:20 “Now then, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were pleading through us: we implore you on Christ’s behalf, be reconciled to God.”
II Corinthians 5:20 NKJV
V. How do we represent His Kingdom well?
A. Why did Jesus come? 1 John 3:8 “But the one who indulges in a sinful life is of the devil, because the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God was revealed was to undo and destroy the works of the devil.”
1 John 3:8 TPT
1. To destroy the works of the devil!!!
B. John 14:12 ““I tell you this timeless truth: The person who follows me in faith, believing in me, will do the same mighty miracles that I do—even greater miracles than these because I go to be with my Father!”
John 14:12 TPT
1. His works are our works!
VI. David anointed as King!
A. 1 Samuel 16:13 “Then Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the midst of his brothers; and the Spirit of the LORD came upon David from that day forward. So Samuel arose and went to Ramah.”
I Samuel 16:13 NKJV
1. The remained with David
B. Where did David go after he was anointed king?
1. Back to the sheep
2. 1 Samuel 16:19 “Therefore Saul sent messengers to Jesse, and said, “Send me your son David, who is with the sheep.””
I Samuel 16:19 NKJV
3. 1 Samuel 17:15 “But David occasionally went and returned from Saul to feed his father’s sheep at Bethlehem.”
I Samuel 17:15 NKJV
C. David kills the lion and bear!
1. 1 Samuel 17: 34-37 “But David said to Saul, “Your servant used to keep his father’s sheep, and when a lion or a bear came and took a lamb out of the flock, I went out after it and struck it, and delivered the lamb from its mouth; and when it arose against me, I caught it by its beard, and struck and killed it. Your servant has killed both lion and bear; and this uncircumcised Philistine will be like one of them, seeing he has defied the armies of the living God.” Moreover David said, “The LORD, who delivered me from the paw of the lion and from the paw of the bear, He will deliver me from the hand of this Philistine.” And Saul said to David, “Go, and the LORD be with you!””
I Samuel 17:34-37 NKJV
VII. Conclusion
A. As a believer of Christ, you bear God’s image, everywhere you go, you are an ambassador for the Kingdom of God/Heaven! You have been equivalent with the Spirit of God inside of you to advance the Kingdom of God and destroy the kingdom of darkness! You are not the underdog! The enemy is! Who can stand against the Lord’s anointed!
B. “So He said to them, “When you pray, say: Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven. Give us day by day our daily bread. And forgive us our sins, For we also forgive everyone who is indebted to us. And do not lead us into temptation, But deliver us from the evil one.””
Luke 11:2-4 NKJV
