How to Live in a Changing World (Pt 6 Notes)

Pastor Stan Roberts

Pathway Steps:

1. FAITH

2. VIRTUE

3. KNOWLEDGE

4. TEMPERANCE (SELF CONTROL)

5. PATIENCE

6. GODLINESS

7. BROTHERLY KINDNESS

8. CHARITY (LOVE)

2 Peter 1:9-10 KJV

9 But he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins. 10 Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall:

NASU 10 Therefore, brethren, be all the more diligent to make certain about His calling and choosing you; for as long as you practice these things, you will never stumble;

TLB 10 So, dear brothers, work hard to prove that you really are among those God has called and chosen, and then you will never stumble or fall away.

Romans 11:29-32 NKJV

29 For the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable. 30 For as you were once disobedient to God, yet have now obtained mercy through their disobedience, 31 even so these also have now been disobedient, that through the mercy shown you they also may obtain mercy. 32 For God has committed them all to disobedience, that He might have mercy on all. NKJV

2 Corinthians 5:17-21 KJV

17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. 18 And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation; 19 To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation. 20 Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ’s stead, be ye reconciled to God. 21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

1 Thessalonians 1:1-10

1 Paul, Silas and Timothy, To the church of the Thessalonians in God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ: Grace and peace to you.

2 We always thank God for all of you, mentioning you in our prayers. 3 We continually remember before our God and Father your work produced by faith, your labor prompted by love, and your endurance inspired by hope in our Lord Jesus Christ.

4 For we know, brothers loved by God, that he has chosen you,

5 because our gospel came to you not simply with words, but also with power, with the Holy Spirit and with deep conviction. You know how we lived among you for your sake.

6 You became imitators of us and of the Lord; in spite of severe suffering, you welcomed the message with the joy given by the Holy Spirit. 7 And so you became a model to all the believers in Macedonia and Achaia. 8 The Lord’s message rang out from you not only in Macedonia and

Achaia — your faith in God has become known everywhere. Therefore we do not need to say anything about it, 9 for they themselves report what kind of reception you gave us. They tell how you turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God, 10 and to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead — Jesus, who rescues us from the coming wrath.

NIV

7. BROTHERLY KINDNESS

– basically loving others and not being self centered.

Romans 12:10 KJV

1Thessalonians 4:9 KJV

9 But as touching brotherly love ye need not that I write unto you; for ye yourselves are taught of God to love one another.

1Corinthians 13:4-8a NIV

4 Love is patient, love is kind, It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails

Galatians 6:2-5 KJV

2 Bear ye one another’s burdens (weight that takes you down), and so fulfil the law of Christ. 3 For if a man think himself to be something, when he is nothing, he deceiveth himself. 4 But let every man prove his own work, and then shall he have rejoicing in himself alone, and not in another. 5 For every man shall bear his own burden (task or light load).

1. Sustain him/her by our COUNSELS, EXHORTATIONS, and PRAYERS.

2. Christians, conscious of their infirmities, have a RIGHT to our concern and prayers.

3. They should not be ‘CAST OFF’ to a cold and heartless WORLD.

John 13:34-35 KJV

34 A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. 35 By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.

A BADGE of DISCIPLESHIP by which people would:

1. Be known as His FRIENDS and FOLLOWERS.

2. Be DISTINGUISHED from all others.

Leviticus 19:18 KJV

It had never before been a DISTINGUISHING FACTOR by which any CLASS or BODY OF PEOPLE would be KNOWN.

John 15:13 KJV

1 John 3:16-17 KJV

8. CHARITY / LOVE – God kind of love.

Romans 8:28 KJV

And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

Romans 8:29-31 KJV

29 For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren. 30 Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified. 31 What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?

NLT… “29 For God knew his people in advance, and he chose them to become like his Son, so that his Son would be the firstborn, with many brothers and sisters. 30 And having chosen them, he called them to come to him. And he gave them right standing with himself, and he promised them his glory. Nothing Can Separate Us from God’s Love 31 What can we say about such wonderful things as these? If God is for us, who can ever be against us?”

Agape is a ‘God-kind’ of love.

It’s a love that absolutely expects nothing from others in order to love them.

AGAPE love comes through a building process.

It’s rooted in virtue, knowledge, temperance, patience, etc.

When we WALK in the GOD-KIND of LOVE, what happens is, we start dictating to our circumstances they don’t dictate to us!

We do what is right IN the situation….we give God thanks IN the situation not for it.

We will be the person who believes that GOD REIGNS, and that all the affairs of the UNIVERSE are in HIS HANDS, and shall WORK TOWARD GOOD!

2 Peter 1:8-11 KJV

8 For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9 But he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins. 10 Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall: 11 For so an entrance shall be ministered unto you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

We CAN be successful in our Christian walk.

That would be HIS promise to us if we follow HIS instructions.
