HONOR
Pastor Stan Roberts
Proverbs 10:1 NIV
A wise son brings joy to his father, but a foolish son brings grief to his mother.
How you LIVE your life is so IMPORTANT!
Despise – to be in contempt of, to scorn, to distain, to consider worthless and unworthy of honor.
Proverbs 31:31 NIV
HONOR her for all than her hands have done, and let her works bring her praise at the city gate.
We need to be a CULTURE of HONOR!
HONOR – Value, worth, weight.
DISHONOR – to take lightly.
Principles of HONOR:
1 . HONORING begins with God’s claim on us.
We don’t see you as you ARE we see you as you can BECOME…
Know God
Find Freedom
Discover Purpose
Make a Difference
Romans 8:30 NIV
And those he PREDESTINED, he also called; those he called, he also justified; those he justified he also GLORIFIED.
HONORING is seeing people the way that God sees them.
- Honoring BENEFITS ME too.
Honoring is not so much for people on the receiving end as it is for people on the GIVING END.
Honoring has more of an effect on us than it does on the one receiving honor.
How you HONOR people will determine how much you WILL RECEIVE FROM THEM.
Ephesians 6:2- 3 NIV
“Honor your father and mother” which is the first commandment with a promise, that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth.
Add WEIGHT and VALUE to FATHER AND MOTHER.
- Honor is GIVEN.
You will ALWAYS HAVE OPPORTUNITY to honor someone who does NOT DESERVE it.
1Peter 2:13-17 NIV
13 Submit yourselves for the Lord’s sake to every authority instituted among men; whether to the king, as the supreme authority, or to governors,
14 who are sent by him to punish those who do wrong and to commend those who do right.
15 For it is God’s will that by doing good you should silence the ignorant talk of foolish men.
16 Live as free men, but do not use your freedom as a cover-up for evil; live as servants of God.
17 Show proper respect to everyone: Love the brotherhood of believers, fear God, honor the king.
Romans 12:10 NIV
Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Honor one another above yourselves.
THREE WAYS YOU HONOR:
1) PRIORITIZE them.
Proverbs 3:9 NIV
HONOR the LORD with your wealth, with the FIRSTFRUITS of all your crops.
Proverbs 3:9 Message
Honor GOD with everything you own; give him the FIRST and the best.
2) PRAISE them.
Honor has a LANGUAGE.
James 3:9-10 NIV
9 With the TONGUE we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in God’s likeness.
10 Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers, THIS SHOULD NOT BE.
Honor has WORDS.
Ephesians 4:29-30 NIV
29 To not let any UNWHOLESOME TALK come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for BUILDING OTHERS UP according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.
30 And do not GRIEVE the Holy Spirit of God.
3) PROTECT them.
Anything you have OF VALUE you PROTECT!
You don’t COVER their sins, you PROTECT their WEAKNESSES.
John 7:18 NIRV
He who speaks on his own does so to gain honor for himself, but he who works for the honor of the one who sent him is a man of truth; there is nothing false about him.
Every time we give honor it does something for us.
The more I VALUE something the more I GAIN VALUE FROM it.
