Baggage Part 3

Relationship Baggage

Pastor Stan Roberts

  1. Unfulfilled Expectations.
  2. Untreated Pain!
  3. Unresolved yesterdays.
  4. Unhealthy view of self.
  5. Unrepented sin.

There are things God NEVER INTENDED to be PART OF OUR TRIP.

Genesis 11:27-28 NLT

27 This is the account of Terah’s family. Terah was the father of Abram, Nahor, and Haran; and Haran was the father of Lot. 28 But Haran died in Ur of the Chaldeans, the land of his birth, while his father, Terah, was still living.

Genesis 11:27-28 NLT

31 One day Terah took his son Abram, his daughter-in-law Sarai (his son Abram’s wife), and his grandson Lot (his son Haran’s child) and moved away from Ur of the Chaldeans. He was headed for the land of Canaan, but they stopped at Haran and settled there. 32 Terah lived for 205 years and died while still in Haran.

This RELATIONAL BAGGAGE keeps us from our POTENTIAL!

Psalm 73:21-22 NLT

21 Then I realized that my heart was bitter, and I was all torn up inside. 22 I was so foolish and ignorant— I must have seemed like a senseless animal to you.

We are NOT the smartest people in the world when we are going through hurt.

EVERY ATTACK OF THE DEVIL IS ACTUALLY AN ATTEMPT TO DERAIL YOUR PURPOSE!

A bitter heart will POLLUTE our other RELATIONSHIPS.

Hebrews 12:15 TPT

Three things from a bitter heart:

  1. It makes us DEFENSIVE.
  2. It makes us DISTANT.
  3. It makes us DEMANDING.

It will destroy our RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD.

OUR RELATIONSHIPS WITH PEOPLE ARE INSEPERABLE FROM OUR RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD!

The HORIZONTAL will actually determine the VERTICLE.

Mark 11:25 NLT

25 But when you are praying, first forgive anyone you are holding a grudge against, so that your Father in heaven will forgive your sins, too.”

You will be unable to receive what God wants to do in your life if you are not willing to extend it to others.

Matthew 6:12, 14 NIV

12 And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.  14 For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.

Until we SETTLE HORIZONTAL the VERTICLE doesn’t work too well.

Are you willing to forfeit everything God has for you to hang on to unforgiveness?

Psalm 147:3 NIV

3 He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.

WAYS TO HELP:

  1. REVEAL the hurt.

Psalms 32:3 NIV

When I kept silent, my bones wasted away through my groaning all day long.

Psalm 39:2

But when I was silent and still, not even saying anything good, my anguish increased.

  1. RELEASE the people involved.

It’s not something about that INCIDENT.  It BECOMES SOMETHING about YOU.

If you will RECEIVE what God did for you, it will give you the capacity to do it for others.

  1. REFOCUS on God’s plan for my life.

Genesis 50: 19-20 NIV

“19 Am I in the place of God?  20 You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done…”

Job 11:13, 15-16 GN

13 Put your heart right, reach out to God…

15 then face the world again, firm and courageous.

16 Then all your troubles will fade from your memory, like floods that are past and remembered no more.
