1Corinthians 1: 4-7
4 I thank my God always on your behalf, for the grace of God which is given you by Jesus Christ; 5 That in every thing ye are enriched by him, in all utterance, and in all knowledge; 6 Even as the testimony of Christ was confirmed in you: 7 So that ye come behind in no gift; waiting for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ: KJV
The Corinthian Church had all of the gifts of the Spirit operating in their midst. These people had their act together stepping out in faith to flow in the gifts of the Spirit.
BUT, what people don’t know is that you can be carnal and function in the gifts.
1Corinthians 1: 10-11
10 Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you; but that ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment. 11 For it hath been declared unto me of you, my brethren, by them which are of the house of Chloe, that there are contentions among you. KJV
1Corinthians 3: 1-4
1 And I, brethren, could not speak unto you as unto spiritual, but as unto carnal, even as unto babes in Christ. 2 I have fed you with milk, and not with meat: for hitherto ye were not able to bear it, neither yet now are ye able. 3 For ye are yet carnal: for whereas there is among you envying, and strife, and divisions, are ye not carnal, and walk as men? 4 For while one saith, I am of Paul; and another, I am of Apollos; are ye not carnal? KJV
v.3 Ampl. – “…are you not unspiritual and of the flesh, behaving yourselves after a human standard and like mere unchanged men? ”
THE GIFTS DO NOT CONFIRM or DENOTE MATURITY..!!!!
Unlearned people will follow those who operate in the gifts and can be led down the wrong path due to immaturity.
The MATURE operate in the Gifts of the Spirit by LOVE, MATURITY to DO GOOD and to BUILD.
THE “SILENT WOMAN” QUESTION !!!!
I Corinthians 14:33 For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints. :34 Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience, as also saith the law. :35 And if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a shame for women to speak in the church.
Genesis 2:7 “And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed
into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.”
:22 “And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a
woman, and brought her unto the man.”
In Gen 2:7 the Hebrew word for “formed” is yatsar, which means “to mold like a potter or squeeze into shape.”
In Genisis 2:22. when God made Eve, the Hebrew word banah is used and means “skillfully formed.”
Eve was not squeezed out, but skillfully formed and carefully fashioned.
When Eve gave birth to her first son, Cain, she boldly confessed her faith, “I have gotten a man from the Lord” (Gen 4:1).
God also helped a frustrated barren woman named HANNAH. (1Sam 1) She cried out to the Lord and received a son – SAMUEL.
Hannah prophesied a prayer and spoke another title of the coming Son of God. She called her Lord THE ANOINTED ONE which is another word for MESSIAH. (1Sam 2:10) Hannah was the first to use it, the first ever to utter the revelation of the Messiah.
Then God sent His special angel on a mission to a young virgin girl named Mary, revealing to her the Name above every name. (Luke 1:26-33).
A WOMAN would be the first to speak that Name of all Power – JESUS!!!
Three women had received the major revelation of His Name.
A fallen Eve knew there was a Lord God;
a faith filled Hannah saw a coming Messiah;
and a young virgin Mary would give birth to Jesus, the Savior of the world!
Miriam was the prophetess sister of Aaron.
In Exodus 15:20 her prophecy was sung, and she joined the other women of Israel to dance before the Lord after He had parted, then closed the Red Sea.
God declared in Micah 6:4 that He sent Moses, Aaron, and Miriam before Israel as leaders of the Israelites’ journey to the Promised Land.
Micah 6:4 “For I brought thee up out of the land of Egypt, and redeemed thee out of the house of servants; and I sent before thee Moses, Aaron, and Miriam.” KJV
Judges 4 and 5 gives the account of another singing prophetess, Deborah, who saved her nation.
Isaiah married a prophetess who bore him a son with one of the longest names in the Bible; “Maher-shalal-hash-baz.” (Isa 8:3)
Huldah was another prophetess of the Old Testament, who was not a singer, but a teacher. 2Chronicles 34:22 describes her as the scholarly type, who dwelt in a college in Jerusalem, and was held in high esteem for her knowledge of the Word.
There were also FALSE PROPHETESSES, even as there were false prophets.
Ezekiel 13:17 “Likewise, thou son of man, set thy face against the daughters of thy people, which prophesy out of their own heart; and prophesy thou against them,”
Nehemiah 6:14 “My God, think thou upon Tobiah and Sanballat according to these their works, and on the prophetess Noadiah, and the rest of the prophets, that would have put me in fear.”
In God’s eyes, women were of equal value as men. Exodus 21:22-25.
THE CHURCH THAT SILENCES WOMEN SILENCES THE HOLY SPIRIT,
1Corinthians 14:34-35 Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not
permitted (to turn over) unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under
obedience, as also saith the law. 35 And if they will learn any thing, let them ask
their husbands at home: for it is a shame for women to speak in the church.
There are key words in these verses we need to be aware of….:
Permitted – To turn over, transfer. (to let them take control of the service.)
Speak (laleo) – Means an extended or random harangue.
LEARN – Learning is INTAKE not OUTPUT.
Acts 13:50 But the Jews stirred up the devout (religious) and honourable (decorous,
comely, well-formed) women, and the chief men of the city, and raised persecution
against Paul and Barnabas, and expelled them out of their coasts.
Acts 17:4 And some of them believed, and consorted with Paul and Silas; and of the
devout Greeks a great multitude, and of the chief women not a few.
Psalms 68:11 The Lord gave the word: great was the company (WOMEN) of those that published it. KJV
NASB – 11 The Lord gives the command; The women who proclaim the good tidings are a great host:
AMPL – 11 The Lord gives the word of power; the women who bear and publish the news are a great host.
NLT – 11 The Lord announces victory, and throngs of women shout the happy news.
1 Cor 14:36-40 “What? came the word of God out from you? or came it unto you only? 37 If any man think himself to be a prophet, or spiritual, let him acknowledge that the things that I write unto you are the commandments of the Lord. 38 But if any man be ignorant, let him be ignorant. 39 Wherefore, brethren, covet to prophesy, and forbid not to speak with tongues. 40 Let all things be done decently and in order.” KJV
V38 “But if any man be ignorant, let him be ignorant.”
Amplified v37-40:
“If anyone thinks and claims that he is a prophet filled with and governed by the Holy Spirit of God and inspired to interpret the divine will and purpose in preaching or teaching or has any other spiritual endowment, let him understand recognize and acknowledge that what I am writing to you is a command of the Lord. But if anyone disregards or does not recognize that it is a command of the Lord, he is disregarded and not recognized, he is one whom God knows not. So to conclude, my brethren, earnestly desire and set your hearts on prophesying on being inspired to preach and teach and to interpret God’s will and purpose, and do not forbid or hinder speaking in unknown tongues. But all things should be done with regard to decency and propriety and in an orderly fashion.”
