Baggage Part 1

Pastor Stan Roberts

“What am i carrying around that should not be part of my journey?”

Claim the baggage.

  1. Unfulfilled Expectations.

Baggage of disappointments.

Proverbs 13:12 NIV

“Hope deferred makes the heart sick…”

  1. Untreated Pain!

Jeremiah 6:14 NIV

“They dress the wound of my people as though it were not serious. ‘Peace, peace,’ they say, when there is no peace.”

  1. Unresolved yesterdays.

Ephesians 4:26-27 NIV

“In your anger do not sin”: Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, and do not give the devil a foothold.

Hurting people hurt people.

  1. Unhealthy view of self.

What others think of us becomes our thought!

Romans 12:3 MSG

“… The only accurate way to understand ourselves is by what God is and by what he does for us, not by what we are and what we do for him.”

  1. Unrepented sin.

Psalm 32:3-5 NIV

3 When I kept silent, my bones wasted away through my groaning all day long.

4 For day and night your hand was heavy on me; my strength was sapped as in the heat of summer.

5 Then I acknowledged my sin to you and did not cover up my iniquity. I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the Lord.” And you forgave the guilt of my sin.

2 Corinthians 10:3-4 NIV

3 For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does.

4 The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds.

Fix a spiritual problem with spiritual solutions.

What is that one thing that keeps tripping you up?

Stop living your life by something that is not even true!

You will Never be free as long as you live your life based on something that is not true!

2 Corinthians 10:5 NIV

“We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.”

Romans 12:2 NIV

“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.”

Put fresh thoughts inside you!

Ephesians 4:22-24 NIV

22 You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires;

23 to be made new in the attitude of your minds;

24 and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.

  1. God still loves me.

John 3:16-17 MSG

16 “This is how much God loved the world: He gave his Son, his one and only Son. And this is why: so that no one need be destroyed; by believing in him, anyone can have a whole and lasting life.

17 God didn’t go to all the trouble of sending his Son merely to point an accusing finger, telling the world how bad it was. He came to help, to put the world right again.

  1. God can free me.

Romans 8:1-2 MSG

1 With the arrival of Jesus, the Messiah, that fateful dilemma is resolved. Those who enter into Christ’s being-here-for-us (you) no longer have to live under a continuous, low-lying black cloud.

2 A new power is in operation. The Spirit of life in Christ, like a strong wind, has magnificently cleared the air, freeing you from a fated lifetime of brutal tyranny at the hands of sin and death.

  1. God will restore me.

Psalm 71:20 NIV

“Though you have made me see troubles, many and bitter, you will restore my life again; from the depths of the earth you will again bring me up.”
