Jesus Over Everything
Pt. 1
I. Where does Jesus stand in your life? What place does He hold?
A. Different View of Jesus
1. He was a good man.
2. He was a prophet.
3. He was a fairytale.
4. He was a good philosopher.
5. He’s my lucky rabbits’ foot when I need help.
B. Colossians 1:15-20 – Everything is about Jesus! “He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him. And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist. And He is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things He may have the preeminence. For it pleased the Father that in Him all the fullness should dwell, and by Him to reconcile all things to Himself, by Him, whether things on earth or things in heaven, having made peace through the blood of His cross.”
1. Jesus is Preeminent.
a. First place, to be supreme
2. Jesus is Supreme
a. Highest in rank or authority.
3. Jesus is the lens we should view everything through.
II. Jesus is supreme over: Our understanding of God and humanity.
A. Colossians 1:15 – Image of the invisible God!
“He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation.”

B. Hebrews 1:3 – Jesus is the express image of God! “who being the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person, and upholding all things by the word of His power, when He had by Himself purged our sins, sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high,”

C. If you want to know what God looks like, you must look at Jesus!
i. John 14: 9 “Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you so long, and yet you have not known Me, Philip? He who has seen Me has seen the Father; so how can you say, ‘Show us the Father’?”
D. Jesus is the firstborn
i. Firstborn – Prototype
ii. Jesus is the perfect representation of how humanity should look like!
III. Jesus is Supreme over: All Creation
A. Colossians 1:16 (NKJV) All things were created by Him! “For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him.”
B. Genesis 1:3 (NKJV) Then God Said! “Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light.”
C. John 1:1-3 (NKJV) “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made.”
D. Worlds view of Creation
1. Mother Earth
2. Evolution – everything happened by chance
3. Global warming
4. Climate change
5. Carbon footprint
E. Colossians 1:17 (ESV) – Jesus holds everything together! “And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together.”
i. Laminin – the glue that holds you together, a cell adhesion protein in the shape of a cross.
F. Because Jesus is Supreme over creation, He has taken full responsibility in reconciling it! (Reuniting it with Himself)
i. Mankind messes up creation! Jesus came to restore it.
ii. Mankind can now steward creation as God intended from the beginning! (Purpose of the Church)
G. Because of the work of the cross, Jesus reconciling all creation, all things can be made new! (Romans 8:3) “For what the law could not do in that it was weak through the flesh, God did by sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, on account of sin: He condemned sin in the flesh,”
i. Colossians 1:19-20 “For it pleased the Father that in Him all the fullness should dwell, and by Him to reconcile all things to Himself, by Him, whether things on earth or things in heaven, having made peace through the blood of His cross.”
ii. Because of Jesus, you can become a new creation
2 Corinthians 5:17 “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.”
H. Because of His work on the cross, Jesus Rules over sin and death!!!
i. 1 Corinthians 15:54-55 “So when this corruptible has put on incorruption, and this mortal has put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written: “Death is swallowed up in victory.” “O Death, where is your sting? O Hades, where is your victory?”
IV. Jesus is supreme over: Our Identity and Purpose
A. Colossians 1:16 You were created through Him and FOR HIM!“For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him.”
B. At salvation, Jesus restores your Identity and Purpose!
i. Genesis 1: 28 “Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”
1. Be fruitful
2. Multiply
3. Fill the earth (with His Glory)
4. Subdue it
5. Have dominion
C. Only in Jesus can we have Healthy Identity and Divine Purpose!
V. Jesus is supreme over: The Church
A. Colossians 1:18 He is the Head of the Church…
“And He is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things He may have the preeminence.”
B. The Church is….
1. Commissioned
2. Equipped
3. Active
4. United
VI. Takeaways
A. Jesus shows us exactly who God is and how humanity should look.
B. Jesus not only created everything, but He chose to step into it and reconcile it to Himself, by going to the cross.
C. Our Identity and purpose can only be restored through Jesus Christ.
D. Have you removed Jesus from the Supremacy of your life?
